Shannon is a queer feminist activist, advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights, gender equality, and mental health awareness. She has built media campaigns to destigmatise conversations around gender, sex, and sexuality and assessed digital and new media as mediums of socio-political communication. At TYPF, she was part of the advocacy and the communications teams, and set up the WHO-supported SEAR Youth Advocacy Network (SYAN) across 10 countries in the South-East Asia Region.
She holds a master’s degree in media, culture, and society from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands, where her thesis was an experimental study on the relationship between political attitudes and engagement with disinformation during the 2019 general election. Prior to that, she completed her bachelor’s degree in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. She has previously worked with organisations like CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, The Dais, and with TYPF as a communications associate.
