We don’t want Sex Education

The YP Foundation follows a “peer educator model" for its target audience—marginalized young people, in institutional homes and government schools. “We induct and train older young adults, say 15- or 16-year-olds, to (conduct) sessions with us. This is premised on the comfort level that a peer group shares.

The articles discusses the role that gender and sexual health educators have play—in rural and urban India where social and cultural stigmas make it difficult to discuss sex, gender and sexual health issues with children and young adults. It points towards the lack of any form of sexuality education in the curricula by most schools. Within the same, there is also discussion of the YP Foundation’s “peer educator model.”
