The South-East Asia Youth Health Action Network (SYAN) is organising a training for youth advocates in the region who are interested in the know-hows of adolescent health & well-being advocacy at a regional and global level.

About the Facilitator

Dakshitha Wickremarathne is a development practitioner striving for social justice. His childhood during the times of conflict in Sri Lanka has sparked his passion for peace and equality. His work in the areas of health, gender and reconciliation lead him to be appointed by the UN Secretary-General as the youngest member of the Every Woman Every Child Independent Accountability Panel. He currently work as a Consultant at FP2030 which is housed at UN Foundation. As the Co-Founder and the former Programme Director of Youth Advocacy Network Sri Lanka, Dakshitha worked on gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka while also shaping strong policies grounded in evidence and science. Dakshitha completed his Bachelors in Social Work and received a Post Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and Global Affairs. He has completed a MSc in Public Policy at University College London as a Chevening scholar and a Masters in Development Studies from University of Colombo. He is a Women Deliver Young Leaders Alumni and a Board Member. With UNFPA, as a Master Trainer, Dakshitha has extensive experience in working with young people and most at-risk populations in Asia and the Pacific. Dakshitha was a Advisor to UN Women’s Global Civil Society Advisory Group. He has worked for UNFPA, CARE USA, IPPF, Search for Common Ground and Office for National Unity and Reconciliation.

About the Network

SYAN is a WHO-SEARO supported network of youth-led organisations in the South-East Asia Region that work on adolescent and youth health issues. SYAN capacitates its members to undertake effective advocacy and strengthen youth-led efforts to promote adolescent health and well-being in their countries and the region. SYAN follows a membership model of peer learning, knowledge exchange, resource creation, and the cross-sharing of experiences and best practices.
