About The YP Foundation

The YP Foundation (TYPF) is a youth-led organisation that facilitates young people’s feminist and rights-based leadership on issues of health equity, gender justice, sexuality rights, and social justice. TYPF ensures that young people have the information, capacity, and opportunities to inform and lead the development and implementation of programmes and policies that impact their lives and are recognised as skilled and aware leaders of social change.

About Loud and Queer

Loud & Queer, envisions to create an inclusive and affirming society through its interventions on queer rights and diversity. Through this programme, we create resources, platforms and leadership abilities to address critical issues of health, sexuality, prevention of violence and discrimination and increase awareness about the lives and issues of LGBTQIA+ persons. It aspires to break the historical, systemic, and institutional working of queer-trans* negativity, heterosexism and discrimination. It invites young queer-trans* people to occupy spaces in their most authentic, unapologetic, radical, loud and queer sense of being and have their voices heard and included within the movement.

About the EQUAL 2.0

The absolute absence of resources that are informed by the perspectives, knowledge, and intersectional lived realities of queer-trans* people make their navigation around hetero-patriarchal legal systems difficult. To address this gap, we initiated EQUAL (Expanding Queer People’s Access to Leadership) 1.0 in 2022. It engaged with 26 young people across 19 states and built their capacities and knowledge on legal rights and entitlements so as to negotiate with multiple stakeholders to ensure the safety and protection of 2000 queer-trans* people. Read about the journey of our previous youth leaders here.

However, queer-trans* people in India continue to face challenges in accessing public spaces, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities. To evaluate this, we aim to develop an equal indicators which will measure queer and trans* affirmativeness of three spaces i.e. public spaces, healthcare facilities and private workspaces on the scale of safe, neutral and affirmative. In EQUAL 2.0, we aim to not only measure these EQUAL indicators in healthcare facilities, private workspaces and public spaces but also develop and suggest ways in which these spaces could take a step forward towards being queer-trans* affirmative and inclusive.

The EQUAL Index will be used as a reference framework to measure if a public space, health-care facility or a work-place is queer and trans* affirmative.

Through EQUAL 2.0, we aim to build a cohort of young people which will be instrumental in creation of the toolkit which measures the public spaces, healthcare facilities and private workspaces on the EQUAL indicator. This toolkit will then be piloted in cities of Jaipur and Lucknow.
