About Know Your Body Know Your Rights

TYPF’s Know Your Body Know Your Rights (KYBKYR) programme works to empower adolescents and youth across multiple regions by delivering stigma-free and rights-affirming information on issues of health, sexuality, and human rights through a feminist and intersectional lens, which enables them to advocate for their well-being at the personal, community, state and national levels.  The programme uses comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) as a tool to advance knowledge and understanding of young people and adolescents on issues of sexual and reproductive health.

Why adolescents? Adolescence is a period when a person undergoes a range of social, emotional, biological, and psychological changes. However, often they are unable to receive complete and pleasure-affirmative information with respect to these changes due to stigma, misconceptions, and overall silence on issues of reproductive health, gender, and sexuality. This results in low self esteem, body image issues, early or unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and unsafe sexual practices among adolescents. Lack of conversations around consent and rejection often makes it difficult for young people to navigate relationships in the longer run.  How does CSE help? Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is a tool which tries to bridge this gap and equips adolescents and young people with rights based information around their bodies, sexuality, and gender. TYPF adopts a peer education model to implement CSE with young people and adolescents. This creates a safe and a non-judgemental space for participants which helps them to ask questions without hesitation or fear of being reprimanded.  Through the KYBKYR Fellowship, you will:

  1. Implement the CSE curriculum with a cohort of adolescents and keep a record of post-session documentation to understand the achievements and challenges of the process.
  2. Increase buy-in among adolescents so that they can advocate for their sexual and reproductive rights.
  3. Carry out a social action project at the site of implementation.
  4. Conduct regular dialogues with parents, community members, teachers, and other gatekeepers on the importance of CSE for adolescents.

Why should you apply?

  1. Advanced knowledge and perspectives on issues of gender, sexuality, and sexual and reproductive health.
  2. Increased capacity to advocate for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents.
  3. First hand experience of implementing CSE sessions with adolescents and liasoning with gatekeepers on the importance of CSE.
  4. Designing one’s own leadership journey with adequate support.
  5. Network building opportunities in the development sector.
